Car cover assistance

I was interested in getting a car cover, but I heard some can be bad on the paint because of holding moisture up to it. whats good and whats to aviod?

I live in the midsouth, so we maybe see a few days of light snow throughout the year if that makes a difference in what i should get.

The trees around my place, and the fact i live on an island, are killing my finish!

Most covers are perforated and dry very quickly so you shouldn't experience any major moisture buildups. After a rainstorm, you should probably uncover it for a bit to help it dry quicker. Either way, I would recommend getting a car cover if you park your car outdoors.

yeah, you wouldnt believe the crap these trees are spitting out here. ALL the cars in this lot are looking bad... must be the season.

Remember one thing about car covers and your car's paint...

If it rain, snows, blows dust, whatever, as soon as it quits remove the cover. You do not want the sun to come out after a rain and bake that water under the cover. Also, you don't want a wet cover to freeze to the paint either! The only way a cover should be on your car is if the car is clean and dry while the cover is clean and dry.

hey vlad , I think you sold me on NOT getting a cover . Instead just wipe down frequently, ususally with a wet chamois if the cars not too dirty..I work at the airport and there's alot of " fallout " from the jets . So I'd just be putting a dirty cover on all the time ...

yeah... dirty on the outside.

its like some tree sap that goes airborne and sprinkles the car... i cant tell which type of treeas there are 4 different groups. ive tried parking in different areas here, no use.

though, after having washed my car almost every weekend, its looking better. (i put 40 miles a week on it, weekends only)

Actually, there are a LOT of benefits of a car cover! Reduces the damage of interior parts by reducing UV rays. This also helps the wax on your car's paint last longer.

Keeps the bird crap from ruining the paint.

If you park your car outside there are definite benifits, you just have to understand that you cant just slap it on when ever you feel like it, it needs maitnence. If it rains you have to dry it out, if it is extremely dusty and it is getting under the cover (for people in so cal, think Santa Anna winds) you need to clean everthing to avoid swirl marks.

For those of you who dont live in so cal, Santa Anna winds come every year and are very dusty, dirty, and strong.
