'04 X3 - new trans - should I buy?

Hey Everyone -

I'm looking to purchase a pre-owned X3 - there is a disclosure regarding a new transmission that was installed in Feb06. The SAV was involved in a rear collision in Jul 04. What should I be looking out for? Is this a big risk?

I'm replacing my '03 330i, which was totaled last month (yes, I'm still in mourning ) and I'm a little apprehensive about getting a pre-owned.

Any thoughts?

I would pass on it, who knows the extent of the damage to the frame and drivetrain or if they cheaped out on the repairs...

Besides the new X3 is out with body-colored bumpers and in a few months you can expect the 07' with the new 260hp engine and features to be out (faster than your 330i if it was an automatic). The last thing you want is an early model X3 (2.5? or 3.0) which has been in an accident and potentially has problems beyond just a poor resale value.
