Sport suspension won't affect its performance in the snow as it always sits higher above the ground than cars. The AWD system is pretty good, too. If you're really that worried about snow performance, X5 + snow tires = unstoppable.

Snow Capabilities of X5

We drove our X5 to Colorado last year for a spring ski trip, and got caught up in the huge spring snowstorm that closed I-70. The troopers were stopping everyone that didn't have chains or 4WD/AWD on the west side of Denver. We kept going and the X5 performed very well. Many cars, trucks, semi's stuck on the side of the road, but the X5 never faltered (and we have the stock tires). Unfortunately, they closed I-70 just 20 miles before we got to the ski resort, and we ended up stranded in Georgetown, CO for three days. We were not only very satisfied with the way the X5 handled LOTS of snow, but also the defrost & de-ice capabilities. We've owned 4WD/AWD vehicles since 1984, and have lived in Buffalo and Chicago, and would not hesitate to buy another X5!
