I really think that BMW does not need to try and create a car for every "potential" buyer. 1 Series, X6..... I think by spreading yourself too thin, you weaken and a lot of the times cheapen the company's image.

I am still trying to decide, I am not sure if I like the lines or not. At first glance it is very appealing, however the longer I look the less it appeals?

An MX5 would have done the trick!

The 1-series has Car & Driver drooling. I guess every few years
BMW makes an "entry level" car to bring in new buyers? Remember
the 318i hatchback?

Unfortunatley, many of us remember the 318i hatchback, and many owners still ask themselves, why the bought such an underpowered, plasticky piece of junk!

I do think the 1 Series will be leaps & bounds better than the 318i hatchback though!

The X6 idea is stupid. Skip the X6 and let's have BMW release an X7 to be the mac-daddy BMW SUV.

Regarding the 1-Series, the question is whether the purpose is to get back to BMW's original driving routes of light weight, great handling, and a pure driving machine, or if it's just a new more affordable "entry-level" BMW. I think the 1-Series is trying to be an answer for both of these questions.
